The Healing Place – Solar Hot Water System

The Healing Place of Wake County is a non-profit recovery and rehabilitation facility for homeless people with alcohol and drug dependency, located in Raleigh, NC. Just like college dormitories or county jails, rehab facilities have a strong hot water demand profile. The Healing Place has about 180 men each day eating meals, showering, and doing laundry. This is the type of operation that solar hot water systems dream about.

I spent this morning installing our non-invasive flow meter on the hot water line that feeds into their kitchen. We’ll probably leave it on for about a week and then see what kind of data we’ve captured. The Healing Place has two other water heaters that we’ll meter after this one, so stay tuned to see how things turn out.
